We've all heard that there are many "secrets" to success in Network Marketing and MLM. We've also heard that your upline is lying to you and not sharing their "secrets" about the business and industry. That's all just horse hockey! The biggest secret about success in this business and industry is that there isn't any secret. Surprised? I thought you might be, but it is very true. Oh! And by the way, your sponsor has a vested interest in your personal success so he is not going to be lying to you about what it takes. More on this later.

- Key #1: You! That's right, you. Here's what I mean about "you." The success or failure you experience in network marketing and MLM is totally reliant upon you, your beliefs, your attitude, and the direct actions you take toward success. You must have a very strong "why" you want to be in this business and what you want to attain as the benefits or your efforts. The stronger the why the greater chance of success. I determined my "why" by completing a vision statement of how I want my life to be as a result of my efforts. What my life will look like, smell like, be like, experience and advantages I will have that I don't have now. Vision statements will be covered in detail in another article.

There are many areas of your life you will need to evaluate to determine what type of product or service you wish to represent and market. Along with that, the choice of company is paramount in keeping yourself aligned with your wants and vision. See yourself as a success with this company and product. If you can't see it then it won't happen. Keep searching. You have to be the driving force behind your success. Yes, there are many other elements that come into play but "you" are the ultimate key to your own success.

- Key #2: Product or service. What products or services get you excited or do you already have a firm foundation of experience and knowledge? This may or may not take some time on your part to crystallize. It is as an important key as any of the others and must be addressed from a business point of view. Can you make a profit with this product or service? Is there a ready made market? Is there exclusivity in the product or service not found in the general consumer market? Exclusivity is nice but is also short-lived in this consumer market.

Network Marketing has hundreds of quality products and services available to you including travel, nutritional, health, long distance, VIOP, communication, energy, and many others. Don't make the mistake of following the herd but then again, don't be too unique that no one has ever heard of it either. Choosing a product or service to represent in your home based business is as personal as the company you select to partner with that has your offering.

- Key #3: Selecting the company that represents and markets your chosen product or service. This is so important and requires research, due diligence, investigation, interviews with existing reps, interviews with potential sponsors, and following that, oh so important, "gut feeling." To keep it simple, I will list for you the requirements that I used to pick my current company and this may shed some light on what you need to look for in your company.

Solid company of five years or older

A fun, professional, and enthusiastic "culture"

Competent corporate staff with business management and NWM/MLM experience on the front lines.

Exclusive product by quality unmatched in the marketplace

Products supported by real life studies for efficacy and quality

A robust comp plan that is quick to see results and easy to understand

Ability to retail products at a reasonable price for "right now" money

A quality marketing plan and support tools in place

Solid and increasing annual sales and distributor growth

Qualified Upline with proven success and willingness to share information

A plan for a successful system to plug into and NOT reinvent the wheel

Both company and product recognized in the community for quality

Easy online signups and prospect back office tracking

Company websites provided at no or minimum cost to the distributor

Outstanding customer support in knowledge and helpfulness

No voicemail, phone trees, but "real people" answering the phones

Company MUST be distributor oriented with income based on volume and not on the

- Key #4: Selecting a sponsor may or may not have a direct effect on your success but, it may definitely affect your failure without the correct choice. Many people in the industry will tell you that your sponsor will not dictate your success or failure in the business and industry. This may be true however; I believe having all of the proper support and guidance is to your best advantage. Once you've selected a company then begins the process of determining who is the best fit to have as your sponsor? Is this person currently working the business? Are they successful to the point you would like to be someday? Can you relate to this person and like them? Are they forthcoming with information, knowledge, experiences so that you don't have to reinvent the wheel but learn from their experiences?

A final and very important question regarding the selection of a qualified sponsor, would you want to take a 30 day cruise with this person? Think about that for a moment and the answer will be very revealing.

- Key #5: In addition to the above, is there a viable and robust training/marketing system in place and a viable and robust team for support and interaction? All of this lends itself to a further advantage toward success provided the previous keys have been taken seriously and good decisions made. You don't want to be left out to stand on your own but want a group of like minded people to interact and learn from their experiences. You want to feel part of a successful team, almost like a family.

As for the training/marketing system, do you want to have to create that all by yourself or would you rather have it up and running and productive from day one. Look for video and audio training, sizzle lines, 800#s, contact management back office, auto responders, existing sizzle messages, emails, and auto responder messages. All of this will save you a great deal of time, shorten the learning curve, allow you to focus on building your business, and increasing your ROI (Return On Investment).

OK then! By accomplishing the above keys you have started out on a strong path to becoming successful in your own home based business in network marketing and MLM. I know this looks like a great deal of effort but starting a business is not a flippant decision and needs to be researched in many areas to give you the best chance of success. Above all, you want to have fun in the process of doing. In a later article I will discuss "learn, doing, learn, and being."

Craig Mattice is totally disabled and works his home based business in network marketing with Vitamark International from his home in Richmond, VA. Which ones will you give the light of day? I have compiled a guide to help you evaluate MLM companies and choose one that works for you, not what your sponsor says.

First of all, there are three criteria for fulfillment. You are obviously going to sponsor others into the MLM business of your choice. In order to guarantee that the people you sponsor are satisfied with their choices — and feel good about them — it's essential for these three criteria to be firmly in place.

SAFETY — There's little or no risk involved. They won't lose their money (not risk a whole bunch, anyway), their health, their happiness, their friends and family, their reputations, their dignity, their status, their job, their self-esteem... nothing will be worse than it already was.

EFFICACY — It does what it says it will do. It keeps its promises. It works! (This includes the company, the compensation plan, the products, the support systems, and the upline team.)

VALUE — The benefits are much greater than all of the conditions that had to be met to obtain them. (The difference defines their degree of fulfillment. If that difference is negative, it defines their degree of disappointment. Either way, it will make them want to tell others about how they feel!)

Most people consider themselves lucky to get two out of three when they buy or commit to anything. If you are fortunate enough to get all three out of three you have a fantastic start!

In addition, there are five factors to consider in order to properly evaluating each network marketing business opportunity...

1. The Company

The Company comes first in priority for one simple reason: if the company goes out of business, so do you.

Company failure is the single biggest threat to network marketers, because 90% of them fail in the first five years.

Check out the track record of the company owners and senior management. Have they been previously involved in failed companies? Do they have convictions for criminal or corporate offences, such as fraud? (Corrupt, incompetent or inexperienced management is still a major cause of company failure. Any decent company will be happy to be scrutinized.)

Start-ups of course are risky but they also can provide a high return because you can reach more people especially in the network marketing industry who haven't heard about it yet. Because of this I recommend getting your foot in the door by first focusing on one solid business to start a foundation, and commit yourself to it before quitting or expanding your portfolio so you have somewhere to work from.

Another word about companies... "Don't put all of your eggs in one basket". Building multiple streams of income is the quickest and easiest way to creating a large income online. Once you have created a foundation create a secure income by adding on other income sources.

2. The Compensation Plan

The compensation plan is second in priority because 90% of network marketers fail to make money, despite their valiant efforts and hard work, and despite name calling ("quitters" or "losers") by some upline 'leaders' and company managers.

The simple reality of network marketing is that most compensation plans are geared against the part-time marketer. They reward the company and the "heavy hitters" with mega-networks at the expense of the part-timers.

Beware, too, of "breakage." This is the money that rolls up to the company when distributors fail to qualify for bonuses due to high group volume qualifications. Breakage can results in windfall profits to companies that can amount to as much as 50% of their net annual profits. This money rightfully belongs to the members.

3. The Products

The basic truth about products is this... they do NOT drive network marketing. Money does. It's estimated that as many as 75% of most companies' distributors don't even use their own products because they can't make enough money to buy them.

There's a name in network marketing for people who are focused on products and prices. They're called customers.

As an entrepreneur, you should be focused on marketing and margins, not products and prices.

While it's crucial to have good quality, well priced, high demand, highly consumable products in network marketing, they're what you carry in your business vehicle — they are NOT the vehicle itself.

Be wary of companies and network leaders who promote heavy emotional commitment to their products. Too often it's a cunning distraction to keep you from looking too closely at the first two factors — the company and the compensation plan.

Despite this fact, you should have 100% belief in the product, compensation plan, and company. In a perfect situation the products should be something you are excited to personally use and recommend.

4. The Support Systems

You need effective systems in place that can be easily and inexpensively duplicated, over and over again. Systems for lead generation, prospecting, presentation, sponsoring, training, communication, recognition and support allow you to focus on people and their needs. You don't get bogged down by the workings of the systems. Systems for ordering products, shipping of products, payments and bonuses should be provided by the company.

5. The Upline Leadership Team

Committed, caring, supportive upline leaders are crucial to your early and long term success. They should have training programs, supervision and support strategies and systems, and they should be accessible to you and your downline.

You owe your upline leaders nothing but gratitude for helping you succeed. They, on the other hand, owe you and your people their livelihood — their incomes and lifestyles. They have an obligation to YOU, not the other way around. Don't be afraid to ask for help — and demand to know their level of commitment BEFORE you decide to join them. (It pays to check them out with other downline members, too, to learn the reality of their fine sentiments and promises.)

Just a small tip before I end this. The scams and duds in network marketing (they're never true network marketing, they only pretend to be to fool people) are easy to find — when you know how.

Here's the reality...

They always create a FALSE vision of getting rich with NO time, NO effort and NO discipline required.

So anytime you encounter an "opportunity" that tells you it can make you rich with no time, no effort and no discipline, you can be absolutely certain of one thing... it's a FAKE. Let's get real, would they need you if any of that was true? If it does work for some time, it is very short lived and is not a good strategy for long-term success.

In closing, it is still always better to get started right away instead of spending too much time looking... while you are out in the field you just may accidentally come across what you have been looking for!

Darren Olander is helping others find and be successful with MLM businesses online. I mean, how many times do you hear a prospect say they "can't sell?" We hear that all of the time, don't we?

After all, we all know network marketing and MLM is really sales. You have sales of products to increase volume; sales of people joining the organization, and sales to friends and family. It's a tough business to be involved with if you aren't a born salesperson. Let me be the first to break this to you but there are "no" born sales people in this world; only people with better people skills than others. Something anyone can learn and improve on.

In my 25 year career in all types of sales and marketing I've read all of the most popular "sales" books available. I've learned how to get the customer mentally involved in ownership, expose the problems in a business where I would provide the solution, deal with objections, and deal with people I didn't even like.

I've even spent hours in sales trainings and conferences learning all of the new and latest manipulative sales tactics. I was able to live a nice lifestyle, put my kids through college, go on cruises and vacations to Walt Disney World on a regular basis. Sounds successful doesn't it?

Here is the meat of this article. The 25 years I spent in active sales and marketing did not prepare me for network marketing or MLM. You would think I would have it made with all of that experience behind me, but, oh no! It actually became an impairment to working the business.

You see, network marketing and MLM does revolve around sales but not in the traditional sense. In my opinion, I had to learn a whole new way to present information, work with the prospect, and pay more attention to helping them then helping myself. Before, it was all about getting the sale and making the money. Slam, bam, thank you mam! Move on to the next sale to conquer.

I can see why nurses, teachers, and moms make the best network marketers because of their caring and nurturing abilities. My attitude used to be strictly business. No warm and fuzzy stuff as I was a professional salesman and didn't have time for that stuff. OMG! Was I so wrong!

I've had to learn all over again that this is a people business and that is the key to success. Giving to people to better their financial and health situations the best I can. Yes! That requires me taking time to get to know the unique individual that I'm dealing with and working totally in the moment with no other distractions. Everyone's situation is different and requires unique attention to them. Believe it or not, it is all about the relationship you build.

So back to the original point of this article; How has 25 years of sales and marketing helped me in the NWM/MLM industry? It didn't! Well, not very much anyway. Trust your gut. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Keep the focus on the prospect's needs and wants. Take yourself out of the equation in that your wants are secondary. Just provide the information for them to make an informed decision and collect a decision. No twisting, manipulating, convincing, pressure, just good information. Be patient and go with the flow of the prospect. That will win you more than anything.

Craig Mattice is totally disabled and works his home based business in network marketing with Vitamark International from his home office in Richmond, VA USA. Have you ever "really" watched squirrels and what they do day in and day out? Well, it's actually quite interesting. At least I think so.

Squirrels seem to have a genetically innate sense of what to do in life. They get up early in the morning and until dusk they are out foraging for nuts. Not unlike those of us in Network Marketing and MLM. We too are always looking for the quality "nuts" available to us.

Oh! You say. But squirrels don't have to deal with rejection like we do. To that I say ah ha! But they do experience rejection. How many times have you watched a squirrel foraging around in your yard, hopping from one place to another, and always digging their little holes? They are of the positive mental attitude that they will always find a nut in just the next hole.

Watching the squirrels you will see them dig their little holes, stick their fuzzy little nose in the ground and come up with......................nothing! What do they do? The same thing we do when prospecting. They disregard the outcome and move on, optimistically; to the next hole they will dig. OK Craig! What about rejection after talking with a prospect?

Well I'll tell you. Many times the squirrel will actually find a nut in the ground, probably buried by themselves earlier or by another squirrel. They pull the nut out all excitedly, sniff it a few time, chew on it a little bit and realize......................this nut is no good anymore. Blah! Been in the ground too long!

Now that is real rejection from the squirrel's point of view. All of that work hunting, digging, sniffing, and chewing, for what, a smelly no good rotten nut. Bummer!

We are not unlike the experience of the squirrel in Network Marketing and MLM. Always searching, prospecting in our many ways, only to talk to a promising prospect/lead and they won't answer our next phone call or email. They just disappear into the "Prospect Protection Program."

How many holes does a squirrel have to dig to find a "good" nut? I don't know. I do know they don't whine; go back to their nest and quite. They just keep on going, day in and day out, constantly looking for that "good" nut.

Our outlook should be as positive and optimistic as the squirrels in your own yard. Day in and day out we should prospect and talk to leads. Examine each as and unique individual and determine if they are a "good" nut or "bad" nut. And keep taking positive forward action.

As with the squirrels, we will even need to place nuts and prospects back on the follow through list as they're not ready for what we are looking for in a "good nut." So the next time you're prospecting or calling leads, think of your neighborhood squirrel and don't quite.

Craig Mattice is totally disabled working his Vitamark International network marketing business from his home office in Richmond, VA USA. An overriding commission is when they allow an independent representative to duplicate their efforts and introduce a person into their company, and get paid a percentage cut on that person's efforts as well. Network marketing allows people to have the lifestyle they want, work from home on their own time, and be their own boss. I have been a consultant since spring of 2005. Network marketing is really a team effort.

Network marketing is a beautiful industry, and it is creating more millionaires than any other out there. However, the misconception of it is what gives it such a bad name. Network marketers have, over the last half century, evolved into some of the greatest spin doctors and word-smiths that our society has ever created. We've become masters at romancing our semantics. Network Marketing companies replace traditional advertising and marketing costs with sales commissions to the independent representatives, paid after the product is sold.

MLM companies operate by recruiting salespeople to sell a product and provide additional commissions based on the sales of people that are recruited into their down line. This includes direct recruits, and their recruits' recruits. MLM has a psychological grip on people. It is very strong and very difficult to break. MLM already has a bad name. I got news for you, it just got worse.

Affiliate programs generally don't require personal product purchases, but they do require continuous sales to new customers in order to pay the affiliate a good commission check. Affiliate programs usually don't charge for training materials either.

Rather it is disappointing to see the odds that most people will be able to earn a stable living through a multi level marketing program, but those that are successful understand that working from home requires actually working hard. Rather the Commission will make its judgment independently, evaluating each case on its merits. We intend to continue our useful relationships with self-regulation groups and to rely on the expertise and findings of other government agencies in our proceedings to the greatest extent possible.

People are eager to join MLM programs. Some people are involved in dozens! People from home are using a type of internet marketing called Web 2.0 which is helping a few of them who have very little experience become millionaires. People who believe that Multi-level Marketing is hard work are doing the wrong things. Discover the right ways to earn your MLM profits starting right now!

People have the tendency to believe negative stories than success stories, especially if it's just something they read from an unknown person in the Internet and not somebody they know and see in flesh and blood. People now days tend to involved in multilevel-marketing, Get Rich Quick and Pyramid scheme without their awareness or willingness.

Finally, there is the distributor membership, which is designed to provide for those people who are independent contractors and affiliates or distributors to the companies who are providing direct sales, multi level marketing or network marketing opportunities. Finally, it instantly builds ready-to-use, download pages for any downloadable products to sell.

Dock J. Right now I want you to measure your commitment level. Rate it from 1 being the least committed to 10 being the most committed towards your success online. Now let's take that number and put a zero behind it and turn it into a percentage. For example 4 would now be 40% and 6 would be 60%. It is important to first know this commitment level before you will be able to figure out how and by how much it needs to be raised.

Why is your commitment level such an important factor in your success? It is important because depending on how committed you are, your actions will change. You will do more productive activities when you have a higher level of commitment than you ever would with less commitment. Your mind and actions change because your focus has changed.

In order for me personally to become successful online I had to achieve a 100% commitment level. That is when I knew that this was my passion and that I wanted nothing else besides success through an internet business. My commitment changed my daily routine immensely. I would then wake up in the morning, get on the computer and begin work on things that I knew would progress my online business. With my free time I would read blogs, articles, listen to training audios and videos and continue to expand my knowledge and apply that knowledge as best I could. Every moment I had I would be anxious to work on my business because I had a 100% commitment level and a very strong desire to create time and financial freedom for myself in the near future. Once I started working on my business like this I had new ideas for my business constantly popping up in my mind and essentially the universe came together to form what was a strong desire into a clear path towards my goal. It was not long at all before I was making enough online to quit my day job and work full time from home.

How many rags to riches stories have you heard or read? If you have been online for much time at all I'm sure you've seen at least quite a few, and if you have been online longer you have probably seen many. These are people who practically had nothing to work with except a strong desire and commitment, and now earn multiple six figure incomes. There are many people who have experienced that and the only difference between them and others is their extreme commitment to success. They would not accept failure.

I was only moderately successful for a couple years when I first started out. I had a commitment but it was only 50 or 60%. My breakthrough as explained earlier did not come until I chose to give it my all and went for it 100%. The truth is that even with a 50 or 60% commitment level you will not receive the results you desire. In fact even 70 to 80% is not acceptable. If you want to make a full-time income online you need to be 90 or 100% committed. You need to provide your online business a power boost by working on it every chance you have, brainstorming and thinking about it even while you may be at your regular job, and working late nights to ensure change. Trust me, if you work like this you will receive major change in your business within just a few weeks, and within a few months easily be making the money you need to continue it full time from home and be free of your day job. The great thing is that after you have done this for a while and experienced its success it actually will take less and less commitment on your end to continue that success into the long future. You will have cut out your job and have more free time, and even if you work less on your online business since you already have gained the knowledge and financial foundation... you will be perfectly fine! Now that is time and financial freedom! The important thing is getting yourself to that level, the crazy desire and commitment level, because it is then your thinking and actions will change.

I will now share with you the different characteristics one has with a 100% commitment level. If this does not describe you then try to get motivated, discover your emotional why for why you are doing this in the first place, and try to adopt the characteristics in order to boost your commitment level through the roof. Again, the following are shared from the viewpoint of someone with a 100% commitment level.

If it is to be, it is up to me. As a highly committed individual you know that your future and success depends only on you. You will not even believe in the ability for someone else to have control over this. Your failure can only be blamed on one person, you.

I will make the time to succeed. You may have a very busy schedule, but you believe and know that there is enough time in each and every day for your business. You will not stand even one day, but instead walk at least one foot closer each day towards the door of success. Even ten minutes spent productively is better than nothing.

My time will be spent on activities that produce the most results. The fact is that 20% of what you do online will create the majority of your results. You need to focus on the things that create those results. Spending all of your time checking e-mail, reading forums, or chatting is usually never a productive way to spend your time. Placing advertisements or anything that will produce real results is well spent time.

I will make myself coach-able and shaped into the characteristics needed for me to succeed. You are aware that some of the things you may have been taught and learned in the past are not true and will only hinder your success. You allow yourself to learn and have the humility to know that each person you come in contact with has the potential to share knowledge that could help you. You are also aware that some of your current habits may hinder or block your success online, and you will need to work on changing these habits. You have the courage and power to move beyond any obstacle that comes in your way.

I have a burning desire so strong that I will seek out mentors and attempt to soak up every bit of knowledge they have. This is a big one and I have noticed this characteristic only in those who become very successful. Most leaders are more than happy to help, but you must have the desire to chase after them, ask questions, and pursue them to follow their lead. Too many people have the desire to learn but they do not act on it. Successful mentors and leaders do not have the time to be chasing after you trying to teach you, you need to feel comfortable with approaching them on a regular basis because it is easy for them to forget about you or lose touch. Those that have contacted me on a regular basis asking for tips on things they are doing or on their marketing have experienced impressive improvement. Make sure to find several mentors that you want to learn from.

It sounds simple but it is always easier said than done. Check your commitment level on a regular basis and make sure to keep it full to the brim if you want results fast.

Darren Olander is dedicated to teaching others how to create a success online through internet network marketing strategies. The more affiliates you enroll and the bigger downline that you build, the more successful you will be. Well, this works mostly in theory.

The reality of business is that most people fail. Therefore, it stands to reason that most of the people that we enroll in our downlines will not achieve success. And in any decent affiliate or multi level marketing program that means that most of our efforts are wasted. The people that we enroll will not stay in the program if they don't experience success.

Naturally, there is a way to fix the situation and improve our business. By understanding that this is not purely a numbers game, that these are real people who want to achieve success and make money with this business, by understanding that if we follow certain guidelines, we can create a strong, healthy and productive downline. And a downline that will stay and grow.

The solution lies in the relationship between you and your downline. It's not the product and it's not the program, it's the people that matter.

Follow these guidelines and you will build a strong and profitable downline:

1. Know your program

You have to know the in's and out's of important aspects of the program. This knowledge will be of much use as you guide your new affiliates in the direction of their success.

2. Let them know you care

Your downline must know that you have a strong and genuine interest in helping them succeed. This is a first step in keeping the affiliates in the program and building a relationship with them. If they see you as someone that is here to use and exploit them, you have failed.

3. Share

Share your experience, your time, your insights about business and any free resources that your affiliates can use. The more you share, the more you will receive. Your downline will appreciate your help and your time, and their feedback and higher involvement in the program will be a natural outcome. That leads us to point number four.

4. Be sincere

Once you've established a relationship with your affiliates, you must preserve and grow that relationship. The biggest mistake would be to deceive them in some way regarding the program, yourself or anything else for that matter. Be honest and sincere in your communication with them and you will earn their trust. When your downline has trust in you, they will come to you with their questions and their needs, and they won't hesitate to use something or buy something that they want or need, if they have your honest recommendation.

5. Be proactive and accessible

Contact your downline on a regular basis, providing them with tips and advice, offering your help and assistance if and when they need it. Also, respond to their emails and inquiries as soon as you can, giving them strong support.

6. Teach them to duplicate and expand their downline

The final important step is to teach your downline how to duplicate what you do and how you do it. If you can apply these things to your business, then you can teach them to do the same. This will ensure that your downline grows exponentially and continues to makes you money.

These are the components of a blueprint which, if you follow it, will help you build a strong and profitable downline. After all, it's the people that matter. And people tend to duplicate something if it works. Show your downline that it can work, and show them, by example, with your own results. After all, it's you that matters.

Josip Barbaric, the developer of the affiliate marketing guide, has successfully built downlines in many different programs. Many make hardly any money or spend more than they end up making. Such people have a hard enough time making ends meet and do not need the lies that often show up in this business.

Due to some disturbing statistics many people would love to stop the many network marketing lies. Nearly all people or 90% who start such a business will give up after just three months. Even if they last longer than that 95% will quit before they have been in the business for a year. Eighty percent of people will never even sponsor a recruit in this industry.

Just a few of the popular lies are that everyone can be considered a prospect which is not always true. Another line that is too positive to be realistic is that distributors are actually sharing the product rather than simply trying to sell it. Such an attitude does not prepare distributors of the product for the rejection that inevitably comes with the territory. Thus, many give up very soon.

Another of the network marketing lies that recruiters tell potential distributors is that anyone can succeed in this business. Again, this is not always true; if you are not a good salesperson you cannot usually convince people to buy things especially if they do not need them.

A popular lie that is sometimes told is that the business that you are building will eventually be yours which is not true. Owners of a company that find themselves successful will not likely sell or give up business to you if they can help it.

No one gives away money for free. If they can keep you working for them, only taking a small percentage of the profit for each sale then they will probably continue that practice. If it seems to work for both you and them, they will see no reason to change. This business can already be difficult enough to break into and succeed in; no one needs lies when they are first starting out and these unrealistic expectations do count as lies.

Just a few of them are listed here. There are books articles and newsletters out there detailing the multitude of other popular lies. Just reading those will help educate you about the many other lies about this business.

Don Downes is an industry leading internet marketer and President and CEO of Downes Marketing Group. It is this potential of geometric growth that gets people excited about Network Marketing. Just think, if you were making $2.00 per person, then in one year you would be making $16,000 per month ! Sounds great, doesn't it ? It also sounds too good to be true. The problem is............ It is too good to be true!

Despite the success stories, MLM has had more than its fair share of problems and failures. Many people who have tried it, have actually lost money, or failed to make enough money to make it worth their while to continue their efforts. Here are the facts that so many MLM promoters fail to acknowledge or tell you:

Typically, 60% to 80% of the people who join, sponsor less than 2 men/women each, in their first 30 days. Therefore, the geometric progression never really occurs in this manner.

The other factor is that most of the people that join a MLM business quit and the majority of them do so within a few months after joining.

Why do people quit?

They aren't making any money because they are unable to sponsor enough people or gain enough customers to become profitable.

Because the products cost too much they aren't saving any money either.

It's too much of a hassle being involved, for the little money that they may be making.

Any of the above combined with the fact that they are actually losing money each month because of money spent on product quotas, marketing materials, motivational tapes, rallies, seminars and long distance functions requiring travel, meal, lodging and ticket costs.

They lose hope that they can ever have the benefit of the development of a big network.

What are the causes of these problems and failures? Can they be eliminated? Is it possible that the leverage created by Network Marketing could benefit everyone and not just a few?

Sorry, MLM will only benefit a few. The entire program must be different. It can't be based on a few hyped products or "get rich quick" claims. It may not have MLM markup. It must be based however on logic and common sense.

Some logic tips a program with common sense must have :

The program must include a trainings program to help people grow in their business.

The less it cost to join, the easier it is to sponsor new people.

Being able to quickly gain a positive cash flow.

The faster your network grows, the more motivated you are to refer new people. A program build on a team effort provides real support to get your network started and develop.

Attractively priced goods to be sold.

Once you see your income grow, you want to do more. There's no need to buy motivational tapes each week or go to an endless amount of weekend functions.

The program must have a plan to let your network continue to grow.

The program must enable you to develop a self sustaining income as your network develops.

Ruud is a home business entrepreneur who connects retailers and consumers online.
